OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY

The society was established in 1972 and brings together people who share an interest in the town, it’s heritage, history and future. Our aims are to:

  • To foster a sense of civic pride in Colwyn Bay.
  • To learn and inform on the history of Colwyn Bay and how it came to be.
  • How it could develope.
  • To foster an interest in the town and encourage what is good and oppose what is bad.

THE SOCIETY'S WORK PAST AND PRESENT

  • We review and comment as appropriate on all planing applications to the local Planning Authority.
  • We seek to make our voice heard on matters affecting the town’s natural and built heritage, and on it’s future.
  • We are developing a series of local heritage walks.
  • We seek to support the local authority in its waste recycling role and have published and distributed to every household in Conwy Council area a copy of a Recyclopedia giving information on minimizing and recycling household waste.
  • We act as a collector and recorder of local historical information.
  • As an affiliate of the Civic Trust For Wales we contribute to the wider national role of the civic movement.
  • We have a regular program of meetings with a wide range of guest speakers .
  • We act as a focus for interest in the history of Colwyn Bay.
  • We publish a bi-annual journal.
  • We operate an award scheme for exceptional local projects that protect or enhance the local built or natural environment.
